What you eat is really important.
Chinese New Year is just over and most of us ate a lot. Thinking back, besides the indulgence over the delicious food we don't really grow healthier or stronger. What you eat is really important. You are what you eat.
What you read is even more important, if not equal. Food enters into our body but what we read, hear and pick up enter into our soul. The question we should ask ourselves is that, are we reading healthily? Do the things we read, we hear and we receive into our mind make us stronger and healthier on the inside. If we don't take in healthy stuffs we are probably just stuffing things into our soul to cause obesity. When we are obese, we become grumpy, sloppy and ineffective.
More than half of the population in Malaysia are overweight. But I think there even are more people who do not feed their souls healthily.
Key to a healthy body: Eat nutritious food. Exercise regularly. Key to a healthy soul: Take in positive thoughts and ideas. Meditate regularly.
It's just like it's crazy if you don't choose what you eat. It's also crazy when you do not filter what enters into your soul.
These are some contents people normally consume:
Posts on Facebook & Twitter- There are a lot of emotional posts, junks and nonsense. Though there are some positive ones.
Movies and musics - Most movies and music are created to generate income. They do not have a mission to impart good values. So forget about being educated. It's for entertainment.
Books - There are a lot of good books out there. I wish more young people would read. Reading is tiring but enriching. Reading doesn't give you much entertainment, but wisdom and creativity.
No wonder many of us are unmotivated, sloppy and unproductive. Because we don't read the right stuffs. People who love junk food will not have much appetite for nutritious food. People who love internet junk will not have much appetite for higher level thinking. They don't like to consume materials that will make them think.
You can continue to stay entertained through just movies and internet. They can fill the empty space in your soul. But you will have obesity.
Choose what you eat. Choose what you read. Digest both well. Exercise and meditate on what you read.
There is a warning against obesity in Malaysia. Many will have to lose weight. Not just that. You need to read healthily too.
Eat. Read. Grow.
